It’s August. It’s hot. It’s humid. How can I optimize the application of my ENVIROBASE® High Performance or AQUABASE® Plus waterborne basecoat in these conditions?
First and foremost, it’s important to only reduce your waterborne basecoat with the specified reducers listed on the technical data sheet. Anything else may have an effect on color match, metallic control, and overall performance.
The best approach in these conditions is to apply less material per coat. This can be achieved by:
These changes may require you to apply an additional coat of color, however, when each layer is applied thinner, it will flash off faster therefore shortening the refinish time.

- Increasing your air pressure to give a finer basecoat particle atomization
- Adjust viscosity of your basecoat to the lower side – between 23 – 25 sec on a DIN4 (with the appropriate reducer of course!)
- Increase the gun distance with less overlap
- Consider changing fluid tips to a slightly smaller size
