Ramon Rosales Runs the Chevron Houston Marathon
| We asked Ramon some questions about his accomplishment and here's what he said. |
Since April 2003, 15 years.
What do you do at Tasco?
I work as support for LeanTec Inventory Management Solutions.
When did you first start running?
I started running April 2014. I began running 5 miles every opportunity that I had.
What was your first race?
My first race did not happen until March 2017. It was the Alamo 13.1 half marathon in San Antonio. After completing this race, I believed I was able to accomplish much more.
When did you decide you wanted to run the Houston Chevron Marathon?
I began training on the Houston Chevron Marathon in September 2017. I signed up for Race Pace 5 a.m. training in September 2017 for 90 days. They trained me to maximize my fullest potential. I received training in speed and endurance.
When did you decide you wanted to try to qualify for the Boston Marathon?
Attempting to qualify for Boston took place days before the run. I enjoy challenging myself. I did not want to disappoint myself by training to qualify and then not making it, but to merely complete it. I then changed my thinking around. I began to believe in what I could do and not what I could not. Believing in yourself is powerful.
What was your final time of the Houston Chevron Marathon?
My finish time for the Houston Marathon was 3 hours, 7 minutes, 45 seconds. I averaged a 7 minute, 5 second pace for 26.4 miles. When I registered for the marathon, on the questionnaire it asked what my pace would be during the run. I answered 8 minutes, 30 seconds. At that moment, I did not believe my body was capable of enduring a fast run for that amount of distance.
What is your goal time for the Boston Marathon?
For the Boston Marathon, my goal is to complete the race in 3 hours flat.
Lord willing, my ending goal is to complete a 100 mile run. Perhaps not this year, but in the years to come. I enjoy waking up every morning knowing I have something to accomplish. It's healthy for the soul. I believe dreams are not only for the young.
Dreams are just sleep unless you act on them. The mind is more powerful than any muscle in your body.
-- Ramon Rosales
Thank you so much for your time Ramon!
